Hammers beaten by Everton

Goals from Yakubu and Andy Johnson were enough to give Everton a fantastic 2-0 victory on the road at Upton Park. Both goals came late on in injury time in either half.

The Hammers had better chances than The Toffees with Fredrik Ljungberg and Dean Ashton coming very close in finding the nets in the first half.

But David Moyes' side surprised the home team by scoring in the last minute of the injury time.

Mikel Arteta pinpoint cross from the left side saw Australian international Tim Cahill head the ball inside the danger zone where the darting Ayegbeni Yakubu headed the ball past the helpless keeper Robert Green.

In the second half, woeful defending by James Collins almost saw Toffees double the lead but Leon Osman failed to beat keeper Robert Greeen in a one to one situation.

Yakubu nearly scored his brace in the 76th minute but his firm header off Steven Pienaar cross was kept out by the diving Hammers custodian.

Scott Parker tried his best to get his team on level and was very influential in the midfield with his timely tackles but a well organised and well disciplined Everton defence denied them any success.

Substitute Johnson made sure off full three points for Everton in the dying minutes of the game with a clinical finish after capitalising on a poor back-headed pass by Hammers defender Matthew Upson.
