Tottenham recorded their first away victory of the season in late fashion as Dimitar Berbatov grabbed a goal in the 81st minute. Ironically, it is Portsmouth's first loss of the season at Fratton Park.

Tottenham seemed to trouble their rivals on counter attacks and played aerial balls to Darren Bent.

In the 15th minute of play, Pompey keeper David James came up with a fine save to deny Kevin-Prince Boateng from close range.

Steed Malbranque slotted home on the rebound but only to find himself in the offside trap.

Pompey's John Utaka and Nico Kranjcar missed couple of good opportunities in the first half.

In the second half, Tottenham had the first go at the rival goal when Steed Malbranque rushed down the left flank flashed a dangerous ball across the face of the goal but Bent couldn’t guide the ball home.

A Sulley Muntari free-kick was, moments later, smothered well by Paul Robinson. Bent then evaded his marker and worked himself a shooting position but failed to generate enough power to trouble James.

In the 51st minute Aaron Lennon managed to break free of the Pompey defence and sent a across but keeper James got his hand to the ball before onrushing Bent could do any damage.

In the 58th minute, Pompey midfielder Kranjcar saw his strike go straight into the hands of Robinson.

After all their attacking Tottenham managed to find the only goal of the match when Lennon sent the ball across which took a slight deflection of Sol Campbell, before travelling to Berbatov who was at the right place to guide the ball home.
