Chelsea to launch bid for Real Madrid star

Chelsea are keen on landing the signature of one of La Liga's best in the winter transfer window, according to a report.

The Blues boss Jose Mourinho is believed to be a huge fan of France's Raphael Varane, who has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid this season.

TalkSPORT claims that Mourinho wants the 21-year-old to join Stamford Bridge as a long-term replacement for skipper John Terry.

The report adds that a fee in the region of £20m could be sufficient to secure the player's signature this month.

Varane has been limited to just nine La Liga appearances this season.
