Arsenal bid for William Carvalho

Arsenal have made an offer for Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho, according to a report.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has turned into one of Europe's hottest prospects, and has been linked with a switch to the Gunners over the past year.

According to The Sun, the Gunners have tabled a £28.5m for the midfielder enforcer, as manager Arsene Wenger aims to provide stiff competition to Francis Coquelin for the holding role.

It is added that the North London outfit would have to offer £8.5m in add-ons in order to automatically trigger the player's release clause.
