Everton close in on Mason Holgate

Everton are closing in on the signing of young defender Mason Holgate from Barnsley, according to reports.

The 18-year-old underwent a trial with Manchester United earlier this summer.

According to Sky Sports News, the talented defender is undergoing a series of medical tests with the Merseyside outfit, after they agreed an undisclosed fee with the Tykes.

Holgate made his debut for the Tykes in December 2014, and has since then notched 22 appearances in all competitions.
