Southampton ready Andros Townsend move

Southampton are set to provide stiff competition to Newcastle United in the pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.

The England international is said to be eyeing a fresh challenge in order to stand a chance of featuring in next summer's European Championships.

Newcastle United have been strongly linked with the Spurs outcast in recent months, but according to The Sun, the Saints are ready to make an offer of their own for the talented winger.

The report adds that the South Coast side may seek to land the player on a temporary deal, with an obligation for a permanent switch next summer.

Townsend is yet to start a league game for Spurs this season.
