Juventus prepare offer for Chelsea target

Juventus are considering an approach for Belgian international Axel Witsel with a deal for Javier Mascherano looking less likely. The Old Lady are on the search for further midfield recruits after signing Miralem Pjanic.

Argentine star Mascherano was tipped to make a move to the Turin giants before Barcelona expressed their desire to keep hold of his services.

Italian source Tuttosport reports that the Serie A holders have now shifted their focus to Zenit.St Peterburg midfielder Witsel, who is said to be eyeing up a fresh challenge for the new season.

However, they would have to face stiff competition from the Premier League with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea being long-term admirers of the player's talents.

Witsel is currently featuring for Marc Wilmots' Belgium at the European championships in France.
