Mata sale could spark Bonucci or Varane move for Man Utd

The Spaniard is thought to be considering his options

Juan Mata wants to leave Manchester United this summer, with Everton interested in signing the attacking midfielder, according to reports.

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Juan Mata is looking for a move away from Old Trafford this summer, and that new Everton manager Ronald Koeman is interested in taking the 28-year-old to Goodison Park.

Mata is thought to be unhappy at United following the arrival of José Mourinho as manager. Mourinho was in charge of Chelsea when the Blues sold Mata to United back in 2014, and the player does not want to stay in Manchester if he will not be a regular starter.

The Spaniard also suffered the embarrassment of being substituted after coming off the bench during the Community Shield tie against Premier League champions Leicester last weekend. Mourinho insisted that Mata was only removed in the final minutes due to his lack of height, with the Foxes bombarding the Red Devils’ penalty area with aerial balls in an attempt to find an equaliser.

But many feel that there was an ulterior motive behind Mourinho’s decision to take Mata off, and that the Portuguese coach was trying to send a message to the player that he is not wanted at United any more.

Mata signed for United in January 2014, in what was a club record £37 million deal at the time.
