Draxler wants out of Wolfsburg, with Arsenal set to swoop

Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg are on the verge of accepting a €50 million offer from Arsenal for Julian Draxler, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttomercatoweb is reporting that Wolfsburg have received an offer of €50 million from Arsenal for Germany international winger Julian Draxler, which the Bundesliga club are set to accept.

The Italian website claims that the money received for Draxler will be ploughed into a €25 million move to sign Italy international striker Simone Zaza from Juventus, providing they can offload Dutch poacher Bas Dost beforehand.

Arsenal are known to hold a long standing interest in Draxler, dating back to the winger’s days as a gifted teenager in the Schalke 04 line up. And it would now appear that manager Arsene Wenger may be on the verge of getting his man.

Draxler publicly made clear his intention to leave the Volks Wagon owned club last month, when, in an interview with German newspaper Bild, he stated that he wants to join an elite club, despite having only signed for the Wolves a year ago.

Wolfsburg, who missed out on qualification for this season’s Champions League, immediately stated that their star man was not for sale, and made the player attend a meeting with the owners to explain his outburst, in which he was reportedly slapped with a hefty fine.

The Gunners appear to have turned their attention to Draxler after prior target Riyad Mahrez signed a new contract with Premier League champions Leicester City.
