Mateo Musacchio on Chelsea shortlist

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has added Mateo Musachhio to the winter shortlist as he bids to add a new centre-back to his squad. The Argentine was linked with the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal in the summer.

Sportmediaset suggests that the Blues have intensified their search for a central defender with Conte not entirely convinced with the options at hand.

The West London giants did manage to sign up David Luiz and Marcos Alonso to bolster their backline in August, but the Italian coach still feels the need to add additional player in the heart of the defence.

Musacchio was strongly tipped to leave the Yellow Submarines over the summer, and his future will once again be on question with the Blues weighing up a winter bid for his signature.

The 26-year-old has appeared in 166 league games for Villareal since arriving from River Plate in 2009. He has also earned three caps for Argentina with his debut coming against Nigeria back in 2011.
