Mourinho wants a new partner for Pogba

Manchester United are interesting in signing FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to reports in Portugal today.

Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola is reporting that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera from FC Porto as the Red Devils boss views the 26-year-old as the ideal partner for world record £89 million signing Paul Pogba.

Herrera has a €40 million release clause in his contract with the Portuguese club, and is also attracting interest from Serie A sides Juventus, Napoli and AS Roma.

United signed Paul Pogba from Italian champions Juventus for a world record fee this summer, and the 23-year-old has yet to fully settle since returning to Old Trafford.

Mourinho initially paired the Frenchman with Marouane Fellaini in the centre of midfielder, but the duo failed to convince, with neither man particularly well suited to providing protection for the back four.

In recent weeks former Athletic Bilbao player Ander Herrera has been played alongside Pogba and the pair have shown promising signs that they could develop into a formidable partnership.

But there are rumours that Mourinho is keen to bring in a midfielder who would be perfectly suited to complimenting Pogba in the centre of the park, and Porto’s Herrera is the latest man being linked.

Last week the Red Devils were rumoured to be weighing up a bid for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
