Pep to replace Clichy in January

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been offered a £20m kitty to find a suitable replacement for Gael Clichy in the New Year. The Citizens have been shambolic at the back in recent games.

According to The Mail, Pep is expected to offload Clichy in the January transfer window, should he receive interest from other clubs. The France international remains a squad player at the Etihad, but the Citizens would not mind selling him over the winter period.

The Catalan tactician has a £20m budget to spend on a fresh left-back, and it is reported that Benfica's Alex Grimaldo and Schalke's Sead Kolasinac are the prime targets.

Both players have been influential to their clubs' progress this season, but the Citizens would have the edge on signing Kolasinac, whose contract is due to expire in the summer.

Kolasinac is well known to be an aggressive left-back who likes to contribute on the attack front, and this is something Pep would favour in his tactical setup.

Manchester City face a must-win game against Watford on Wednesday night after being teared part by champions Leicester City last weekend.
