Caceres on his way to EPL?

Former Juventus defender Martin Caceres is reported to have snubbed a contract offer from AC Milan amid interest from the Premier League.

The Uruguayan international was released from the Old Lady in the summer following a trophy-laden spell which was hindered by numerous injuries.

According to reports, the 29-year-old was closing in on a move to the San Siro this month before the club failed to meet his wage demands.

Caceres is now said to be on his way to the English capital with both Southampton and Sunderland looking forward to securing his services.

Claude Puel's side are currently in a tight situation at the back with Virgil van Dijk sidelined for three months - knee injury, and this leaves a young Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida to take the burden.

Meanwhile, the Black Cats are still in the search for effective recruits as they seek to bolster their backline further in the next few days.

Caceres, who has the potential to play across the defence, was earlier linked with a potential reunion with Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
