Atleti to extend Torres stay
Atleti to extend Torres stay
Former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is set to be offered a new contract at Atletico Madrid, club president Enrique Cerezo reveals.
The 32-year-old has netted five goals in 23 outings for Atleti this term, including an impressive brace in the 2-0 victory over Leganes over the weekend.
Torres has played a handy role alongside Antoine Griezmann upfront in recent times, and though, his game time has been restricted, Cerezo believes that an extension will be finalized in due course.
"Everyone loves him. He is a great player, why wouldn't we renew his [contract]? We will speak about [his contract] renewal in due course. Atleti need great players," he told Cadena COPE.
Torres has managed 23 goals in 94 appearances for Atletico Madrid since his second coming from AC Milan on an initial 18-month loan contract. He currently has less than six months left on his permanent deal inked last summer.
