Xavi: Pep could sign this Arsenal star for Man City

Wilshere to Man City a possibility - Xavi

Former Barcelona star Xavi believes Pep Guardiola will have Jack Wilshere at the top of his shortlist for the summer. The Arsenal midfielder has impressed in his loan stint at Bournemouth this term.

Wilshere has less than 18 months left on his current Gunners contract and he could be sold out on his arrival to the Emirates during the off-season.

Xavi, alongside his former Barca teammates, had watched a young Wilshere impress for Arsenal during their Champions League tie in 2011, and the veteran feels that Guardiola is still keeping tabs on the England international.

"I know Pep has always had a lot of respect for Wilshere - he impressed so many of the Barcelona team when we played Arsenal in 2011," he told Fox Latin America.

"He impressed me a lot that night, I know he also did Pep and it will be a player that he would have been following ever since.

"If it wasn't for the issues he has had with injuries I am sure he would be one of the best midfield players in the world.

"At the moment he seems to be doing well with his fitness - and if there is a chance to sign him in the summer, I am sure Pep will give it real consideration."

Wilshere did not get much of a chance to impress Pep on Monday night as he was taken midway through the game versus City with an ankle problem.

Nevertheless, it appears that the injury is a minor concern, and he will be up and kicking for the clash versus West Bromwich Albion in eight days' time.

The Stevenage-born midfielder has amassed just two assists in the top flight this season, and he will seek to add a few more to his tally in order to convince Pep over a summer deal.
