Bizarre Hooliganism Solution

Fan violence has become a big worry ahead of next year's World Cup

A Russian politician has today suggested an unorthodox solution to the problem within football, especially Russian football, that is hooliganism. Igor Lebedev has proposed that hooliganism is legalised and made a spectator sport.

Controversial politician Lebedev is no stranger to being involved in discussions about this problem within the sport, commenting during the fights at Euro 2016 that he "didn't see anything terrible about fans fighting." and additionally "Well done lads, keep it up", which was aimed at the Russian hooligans during the trouble in Marseille.

Lebedev's suggestion is that an organised group of fans, who are looking to fight, would meet an opposing group of fans with the same intentions, offer a challenge, and then proceed with violence.

This idea has been massively frowned upon by others in the sport, with the statement becoming even more concerning due to the fact that Lebedev is a member of the Russian Football Union. Russia will host the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with many supporters deciding to stay away from the tournament due to concerns over their safety.

Russia have assured the world that fans welfare is being taken into consideration, and authorities are preparing to clamp down on any threats of fan violence. It is unlikely that Lebedev's proposal will evolve, and the majority of people within the world of football will be relieved by that.
