Lukaku turns down Everton contract offer

Lukaku's desire for Champions League football may see him leave

Everton's star striker Romelu Lukaku has turned down a new contract offer from the club, despite his agent saying that the deal was 99.9 percent done a couple of weeks ago. The new contract was reportedly worth £140,000 a week.

Lukaku is the Toffees' leading goalscorer this season, having a Premier League tally of nineteen goals. With speculation mounting that he would leave in the summer, Lukaku's agent told the media that a new deal was 99.9 percent completed. However, with Everton hoping that the Belgian would sign the new deal within the next 48 hours, the striker has refused the offer.

Lukaku has made no secret of his desire to play Champions League football, with many expecting him to leave Goodison Park last summer. The Merseyside club did manage to keep hold of their man, and with the club launching a late bid for European qualification, they were hoping to keep hold of their key man and tie him down to a new five year deal.

This refusal will alert the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, who have both shown interest in Lukaku in recent history. However, the Belgium international does still have two years remaining on his current contract, meaning that if any club wants to sign him, it is likely that they will have to spend big.
