Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly been given the backing to go on a major spending spree during this summer's transfer window.



Tottenham Hotspur ace Eric Dier is understood to be United's top priority for the summer with veteran Michael Carrick likely to be released at the expiry of his contract.

According to The Sun, the Mancunian giants will move in for the versatile midfielder during the off-season with Mourinho assured of spend reasonably in the coming transfer window.

Mourinho is said to want a new central defender, central midfielder and centre-forward in his ranks, and Dier is said to fulfil the midfield position despite having impressed in the backline of late.

Spurs are in no hurry to offload their asset, who has featured 37 times this term, but they would be tempted to accept a package of around £50m for his signature this summer.

Dier has been recently used as part of a three-man defence at White Hart Lane alongside Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
