Defoe: my Spurs frustration

Jermain Defoe has revealed his Tottenham frustration at his lack of playing time. Defoe joined Portsmouth on the final day of the transfer window and is excited at the opportunity of a fresh start under the delighted Harry Redknapp.

"All I wanted to do is play football. It has been really frustrating. It has been frustrating not playing, then starting, then missing three games.

"Towards the end at Spurs I thought if I am playing, working hard and scoring... what else can I do?

"As a footballer there comes a time when you can't handle sitting on the bench. You want to be a part of it...I just want to score goals and that is when I am at my happiest.

"Sometimes you think you are working hard for no reason. I think I have learned to button my lip and I'm a professional so I've just got on with it.

"But it's a fresh start now. I am looking forward to it."
