Chelsea winger becomes first Newcastle signing

Newcastle United have announced their first signing since winning promotion back to the Premier League, with Christian Atsu joining from Chelsea after a successful loan spell.
Twenty five year old Atsu signed for Chelsea four years ago from Porto, but was unable to break into the first team. In his season long loan to Newcastle, he was a key player in their promotion campaign, causing problems for defenders and also chipping in with five goals in his thirty five appearances.
As part of the loan, The Magpies had an option to make the deal permanent for a fee of £6 million, something that Rafael Benitez has moved quickly to complete.
The Ghanaian is the first of what is expected to be many arrivals at St James' Park this summer, as Benitez begins his planning for how he will assure that the club can become an established Premier League side once again.
Newcastle United returned to the Premier League in style, winning the Championship title on the final day, just beating Brighton and Hove Albion to the trophy.
