Real Madrid move to within a point of the title

Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and one each from Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos regained top spot for Los Blancos, and ensured they only need one point in their last game to clinch the title.

Real Madrid earned a hard-fought victory against a resilient Celta Vigo. The scoreline might not reflect that but Real Madrid were fighting hard at 2-1 to 10-men Celta Vigo at after an hour of football.

The inspirational Cristiano Ronaldo had put the visitors infront in the first half, collecting a pass from Isco outside the box before lashing an unstoppable left-foot shot beyond the helpless Celta goalkeeper and into the corner of the goal.

The visitors were 2-0 ahead minutes after halftime, with Ronaldo getting his second. Isco again threaded a sumptuous through ball to Ronaldo after going past four Celta players before the Portuguese calmly slotted it home. Ronaldo's scintillating form at the tail-end of the season has been down to Zidane persuading the forward to sit out of more games earlier in the campaign.

The Portuguese said after the match, "I'm feeling good. Thanks to the manager I have held back a bit more this season to be right at the most important part of the season."

There was controversy as Celta's star striker Iago Aspas was sent off for a second booking for diving, but replays showed that Ramos had clearly knocked Aspas down. However, the home side was resilient and pulled one back through John Guidetti on the hour mark to set up a nervy end for Real Madrid.

However, two goals from Benzema and Kroos ensured that Real Madrid went three points clear at the top, and they only require a draw at Malaga in the final game of the season to clinch the title.

Ronaldo said after the win: "We still have one game to go and we have to finish well. Malaga are strong at home. We only need a point but we will go there to win the game because that is always our attitude."
