Ibrahimovic could be set for a return to the San Siro

The Swede was recently released by Manchester United and AC Milan have immediately inquired about a possible deal to bring the forward back to the San Siro.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was enjoying a stellar debut season for Manchester United, scoring 28 goals, before a serious knee injury abrupted his campaign.

The striker tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Anderlecht in the Europa League quarter-finals. Despite undergoing a successful surgery and showing extremely quick progress in rehabilitation, Manchester United decided against extending the forward's one-year contract and released him.

Many clubs in the Major Soccer League and the Chinese Super League have been linked to Ibrahimovic but AC Milan have taken the first step towards a potential deal by approaching the player's agent, Mino Raiola, according to Italian news outlet Football Italia.

Mino Raiola is currently the agent of AC Milan's goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and is scheduled to meet up with club representatives to discuss the future of the youngster. Milan have added a potential deal for Ibrahimovic as a secondary agenda for that meeting.

Ibrahimovic enjoyed his time at Milan from 2010 to 2012 as he scored 56 goals and registered 24 assists in just 85 games.

However, there are two major issues that might prevent the deal from happening. Firstly, Ibrahimovic's age is against him at 36 and he might not recover fully from his knee injury. Secondly, his hefty wages might put Milan off.

With problems for both player and club, it appears that a compromise between both parties will be key to a deal being completed.
