Arsenal line up move for Monaco midfielder
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly made a bid for AS Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar. The impressive French international helped lead the Ligue 1 side to the domestic league title.
Arsenal are to embark on a summer of rebuilding their squad, with question marks over the long-term future of England international Jack Wilshere. Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and Eddie Howe's side have decided not to pursue the player on a permanent basis. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen for Wilshere to decide his long-term future so that he can identify a replacement for the midfielder and is understood to have made Thomas Lemar his first choice.
Lemar, who had his breakout season last campaign both domestically and in European competition; is considered one of Monaco's most important players but also has told club colleagues that he dreams of one day playing in England, specifically with Arsenal.
The player has over two years remaining on his deal at Monaco and is locked in talks over a new contract at the club. Lemar could triple his salary with a move to the Premier League.
