Watford eyeing deal for Euro 2016 winner
Watford are plotting an approach to sign Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patricio during the summer transfer window. The Portugal international has spent his career in the Primeira Liga, and he could be up for a new challenge next season.
Hornets boss Marco Silva worked alongside Patricio during a single season at Lisbon in 2014-15, and he is now keen on a reunion at Vicarage Road as he looks to bolster his goalkeeper department.
Heurelho Gomes has owned the number one role at Watford in recent seasons, but Silva is looking at a new shot-stopper, who could potentially compete with the veteran ahead of Costel Pantilimon.
Patricio has appeared in over 300 outings for Sporting to date, while he has also managed 61 caps with the current European champions Portugal.
He had been linked with a proposed move to Everton last summer, but the Toffees have opted to spend a club-record sum on Sunderland's Jordan Pickford instead.
Watford are likely to offer a fee of around £8m in order to pursue the services of the Euro 2016 Golden Glove winner.
