Klinsmann shortlisted for Sunderland job

Sunderland are still without a manager since the departure of David Moyes

Former Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann could be appointed as the new Sunderland manager in the coming days if the German consortium interested in the club complete their takeover.

Sunderland finished bottom of the Premier League last season after struggling from the very beginning of the campaign, winning just twenty-four points from their thirty-eight games.

Shortly after the season ended, manager David Moyes stepped down from his position as manager of the team, leaving the managerial vacancy open, which remains that way still.

It is understood that the German consortium looking to buy Sunderland will want to bring in their own manager if successful and The Sun suggests that Klinsmann is the one that they will choose.

Klinsmann, who has been out of work since leaving his role as USA coach at the end of 2016, has fond memories of England after becoming a fan favourite at White Hart Lane due to his time with Tottenham Hotspur.

Sunderland have a big task on their hands if they are to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Jermaine Defoe and Jordan Pickford have left and there may be further departures to come.

Supporters will hope that they can get a new manager appointed as soon as possible in order to assemble a team that is capable of performing much better than they did last season.
