Three Premier League clubs chasing Arsenal defender

Calum Chambers news

Chambers was unable to save Middlesbrough from relegation last season

After impressing on loan with Middlesbrough last season, Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has become a summer transfer target for several Premier League clubs, with it looking unlikely that he will be a regular for The Gunners in the coming season.

22-year-old Chambers joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2014 for £17 million. He put in some strong performances during his early days with the club but failed to secure a first-team position, leading to him being loaned out last season.

Despite receiving praise for his time with the relegated club, Chambers may find himself as low down as fifth choice centre-back upon his return to The Emirates. The right offer for the club and player may lead to him moving on to the next stage of his career.

Newcastle United, Everton and former club Southampton have all declared interest in signing Chambers this summer, who is currently away representing England under-21's.

Southampton are keen to secure a return for their former youngster if current defender Virgil van Dijk leaves the club after being heavily linked with a move away.

Newcastle have been linked with numerous centre-backs so far this post-season, as they look to tighten up their defence ahead of their return to the English top flight.

Ronald Koeman has not been afraid to spend big at Everton this summer as he attempts to break his team into the Premier League top four. Chambers would be another young English player signed, after signing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland recently.
