Real Madrid have given up their chase of David De Gea for a second season in a row after the Spaniard pledged his future to Manchester United.

De Gea was the subject of interest from Real Madrid yet again in this summer transfer window as Zinedine Zidane still deems current goalkeeper Keylor Navas a weak link in his otherwise faultless system.

Real Madrid have been trying to bring De Gea to the Bernabeu since 2015 and almost got their man but for issues with paperwork with scuppered the transfer. The 26-year-old has gone on to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment.

That very fact brought Real Madrid on De Gea's doorsteps yet again as the European Champions were believed to have offered the goalkeeper a salary rise and assurance of number one spot over Keylor Navas. Recent interest from United for Gareth Bale also meant that Real president Florentino Perez proposed including De Gea in a deal that would see Bale move to Old Trafford.

However, Real Madrid have officially given up on getting De Gea, at least for this season, after the player pledged his future to Manchester United, according to the Express. The report claims that De Gea wants to continue his development under Jose Mourinho in an attempt to become the world's best goalkeeper and has no plans of returning to the Spanish capital.
