Arsenal have reportedly joined the long list of clubs interested in signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka. The Germany international has turned down a fresh deal at the Veltins-Arena, and he will most probably leave the club on a free next summer.

The 22-year-old was linked with a whole host of high-profile clubs including Bayern Munich and Manchester City during the summer transfer window but he opted to stay put with the Gelsenkirchen outfit.

Despite this, speculation continues to revolve over his future with Arsenal the latest club to be interested in the Confederations Cup winner, Bild reports.

Goretzka is regarded as one of the most promising midfielders in the Bundesliga, and he hit the headlines earlier in June after he scored a first-half brace in the 4-1 Confederations Cup triumph over Mexico.

Schalke have had a tendency of losing their top prospects including Joel Matip and Sead Kolasinac on free transfers in recent seasons, and they are seemingly prepared to stick with Goretzka until the end of his contract.

As a result, any club interested may have to pay a huge signing-on fee which could be finalised via a pre-contract agreement at the start of 2018.
