Beppe Marotta: Liverpool won't sell Emre Can in January
Juventus general director Beppe Marotta has confirmed that his side failed with a summer approach to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can. The Bianconeri chief does not feel that the Reds would consider a mid-season deal for the Germany international.
Can is into the final eight months of his Anfield contract, and this has attracted interest from the Serie A champions with manager Max Allegri said to be a huge admirer of his services.
Marotta had previously claimed that Juventus could pursue a winter deal for the midfield enforcer, but the Italian is no longer confident of recruiting Can midway through the campaign.
"We don't think we are going to make an big signing in January. We have faith in this team and in these lads," he told Premium Sport.
"As for Emre Can I don't think Liverpool will sell him in January. We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn't sell him so I don't think they'll change their mind in the middle of the season."
Juventus dropped their first points of the Serie A campaign on Sunday after they were held to a 2-2 scoreline by Atalanta BC. As a result, they are placed second in the standings behind Napoli, who have made a perfect start to the season.
