Glenn Hoddle slams Chelsea for transfer decision following Roma draw

Hoddle does not feel Bakayoko has replaced Matic in the Chelsea ranks

Glenn Hoddle has criticised the performance of Tiemoue Bakayoko following Chelsea's 3-3 draw against AS Roma in the Champions League last night.

The Blues squandered an early 2-0 advantage against the Giallorossi, and they eventually had to settle for a 3-3 draw after Eden Hazard popped up with a vital equaliser in the second half.

Bakayoko has been the subject of criticism from several pundits including Ray Wilkins in the past, and Hoddle was the latest to question the Frenchman's impact in midfield.

Speaking after the game, he told BT Sport: "Bakayoko has got to come to the fray. He’s got to do more for me. He’s a big, strong player but he got knocked off the ball a few times tonight. Does he get in the box? Does he hold? I’m not sure."

Meanwhile, Hoddle also slammed the club's decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United with the Serbian putting in a string of top-class performances under Jose Mourinho.

He added: "The loss of Matic, Matic going to Manchester United, I’m scratching my head still. You don’t give him to one of your rivals. He’s playing superb for United and he’s a big miss for Chelsea."

The Blues are now winless in their previous three outings in all competitions, and they will be determined to end this streak when they host Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Marco Silva's side have been the surprise package of the campaign with their tendency to claim valuable points in injury time, and Chelsea will have keep a close watch on Richarlison, who has been their success story.
