Hodgson dismisses Wilshere link

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has dismissed speculation linking the club with a move for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The England international has just seven months on his existing Gunners deal, and this led to suggestions that Arsene Wenger could sanction a winter sale.

As a result, Hodgson was linked with a reunion with Wilshere with Palace looking to add more quality to their ranks as well as assuring the Englishman with regular gametime.

However, in a report covered by ESPN, Hodgson denied the transfer link and insisted the midfielder's name is not on their shortlist for the winter transfer window.

He said: "Who has linked him? That's what you need to find out, because it didn't come from us. I will tell you who, his agent -- because that's where newspapers get their stories from.

"We have never mentioned his name. I work with Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players, and Jack Wilshere's name has never been mentioned in this room."

Wilshere has previously revealed that he is content with life at the north London club, but the lack of Premier League football is said to be playing a part in his reluctance to sign a new contract.

The 25-year-old was left out of the recent England squad for a similar reason, and he could yet push for a January exit, should his chances not improve before the turn of the year.

Wilshere has managed just two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season - the last of which came in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City last weekend.
