Real Madrid defender confirms Manchester United interest
Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane has confirmed that Manchester United have enquired over the possibility of acquiring his services during the summer transfer window.
The France international was recruited by Jose Mourinho for Los Blancos back in the summer of 2011, and the pair have since shared a fond relationship regardless of the latter moving on in his managerial career.
Varane, who is the youngster player to have won three Champions League titles, has previously spoken fondly about his association with Mourinho, and he has now revealed that there has been contact from the United entourage.
When quizzed on any possible interest from the Red Devils, the 24-year-old told Spanish radio outlet El Larguero: "No, not directly. There were contacts, but not directly."
Earlier this season, Varane penned a new long-term deal with Los Blancos, and it appears highly unlikely that they would consider his sale, unless an audacious bid is made. He has managed 27 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid this term.
