Aaron Ramsey issues fresh update on Arsenal contract talks
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has revealed that the club are yet to open up negotiations over a fresh contract as they are presently focused on matters relating to other players in the squad.
The Wales international has just 15 months left on his existing deal, and it was reported earlier in February that he wants a significant pay rise in order to come on par with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Ramsey provided a goal and assist during the recent double-legged tie against AC Milan in the Europa League round of 16, and shortly after the home-leg, the Welshman indicated that talks over an extension are yet to progress.
"Nothing to comment on at the moment. I think they’ve been busy to tie up other contracts at the moment," he is quoted as saying by BT Sport following the 5-1 aggregate triumph.
Aside from Ramsey, the Gunners are likely to be concerned over the contract status of Jack Wilshere whose contract expires at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
The England international has himself hinted that talks are at a standstill, but manager Arsene Wenger remains hopeful of committing him to a new deal to prevent him from joining a direct rival.
