Manchester United agree contract extension with experienced full-back

Ashley Young news

United extend Young's contract until June 2019

Manchester United have reportedly triggered an extension clause in the contract of Ashley Young. The 32-year-old has been consistent with his performances in a make-shift left-back position and the club have now prolonged his deal until the summer of 2019.

Young's Old Trafford career appeared to be coming to an end during the summer after he was offered the chance to ply his trade in the Chinese Super League.

However, he decided to stay put with the Red Devils, and this has paid dividends with him commanding a regular left-back role ahead of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian, who are more experienced in the position.

According to The Mail, United have now decided to extend his stay for another 12 months via an extension clause, and they are prepared to offer him a long-term deal, should he continue to impress under Jose Mourinho.

Young's consistent showing at United have also caught the eye of England boss Gareth Southgate, who has recalled the veteran for the upcoming international friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy.
