Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly set his sights on pursuing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane at the end of the 2017/18 season.

The France international has shared a fond relationship with the Portuguese tactician since their Bernabeu days, and it appears that the 55-year-old is keen on a reunion with the centre-back this summer.

According to The Mirror, United are planning to revive their long-term interest in the former Lens man, who has won three Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns with the Madrid giants.

Varane has not had the best of seasons with Los Blancos, and Mourinho is seemingly keen on capitalising on the situation by securing a £50m move for the Frenchman.

Despite this, the 24-year-old has more than four years left on his existing deal with Real Madrid, and it will be interesting to see whether Los Blancos would negotiate with United, given the rivalry between the sides.

Manchester United's David de Gea failed to pursue his dream move to the Bernabeu back in September 2015 due to a faulty fax machine and Los Blancos have since declined United's approach for the likes of Gareth Bale and Alvaro Morata.
