De Gea set for United extension

Manchester United are reportedly close to committing goalkeeper David de Gea to a fresh five-year contract worth £350,000 a week.

The Spain international is keen to have the deal sorted out prior to the World Cup, and he is expected to become the club's second highest earner behind winter signing Alexis Sanchez.

According to The Sun, United are now close to tying De Gea to a new long-term deal with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure having freed up more wages to dispense on their shot-stopper.

De Gea has refused to talk about Real Madrid since his failed transfer move back in 2015, and Jose Mourinho hinted earlier this year that Los Blancos may have to look elsewhere to bolster their goalkeeping department.

The Spaniard has kept over 110 clean sheets for United across all competitions since his arrival from Atletico Madrid over seven years, and he looks set to earn legendary status with the club with a new deal likely to assure his stay beyond the summer of 2019.
