Man Utd eyeing Southampton defender?

Manchester United are reportedly looking into a deal for Southampton 's Ryan Bertrand as they seek to bolster the left-back position ahead of next season.

The Red Devils are expected to reinforce their backline during the summer with the age of first-choice full-backs Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young said to be of prime concern to Jose Mourinho.

According to The Sun, United are keen on finding a long-term solution on the left side of the defence, and this has brought Bertrand onto their focus ahead of the summer.

Bertrand has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, but the pair have seemingly cooled their interest, having signed Emerson Palmieri and Aymeric Laporte respectively in the transfer window just past.

Southampton are currently three points adrift of Premier League safety, and it is suggested that United could pull off the deal easily, should the Saints fail to avoid the drop.

United have previously done business with Southampton for Luke Shaw in 2014, but the Englishman has not quite settled at the Old Trafford club. He is likely to make way for any new arrival during the summer.
