Arsene Wenger provides fresh injury update on Mkhitaryan
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has delivered a positive injury update on Henrikh Mkhitaryan following the Gunners' 6-3 aggregate win over CSKA Moscow in the Europa League quarter-final.
The Armenia international sustained a knee ligament strain during the first leg of the double-legged quarter-final tie, and there were suggestions thereafter that he could miss the rest of the campaign.
However, Wenger has quelled those fears by revealing that the 29-year-old should retain in a couple of weeks' time, he said: "Yes, [it’s a] ligament strain and he should be out for two more weeks. Don’t be too worried. We have good medical staff and he’s very serious in his rehab."
Should the rehabilitation go as planned, Mkhitaryan could return for the Premier League clash against Manchester United in late April, whilst also making himself available for the return leg of the Europa League semi-final versus Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League with 54 points, 13 adrift of Tottenham, who are occupying the final Champions League spot. They face Newcastle United in their next league fixture on Sunday.
