Rafael Benitez speaks on Fernando Torres speculation
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that a reunion with Fernando Torres would be 'an attractive option', though it is unclear whether the Spaniard would fancy a Premier League return.
The 34-year-old is expected to leave Atletico Madrid for the second time at the expiry of his contract this summer and this has associated him with a possible reunion with Benitez - whom he worked with at Liverpool and Chelsea.
Speaking to Marca, Benitez admitted that the Magpies would be open to the prospect of signing the Spaniard but he is doubtful whether the marksman would consider the same.
He said: "I think it will be harder for him to come, not because we don't want to. I don't know what's going on in his head, but maybe he is thinking about something else. It would be attractive, but I don't think it would be easy."
Torres enjoyed the best spell of his Premier League career with Liverpool between 2007 and 2011 but he unfortunately could not win any kind of silverware until making the switch to Chelsea.
At Stamford Bridge, he was lesser of a force in the goalscoring department but ending his stint with three trophies after lifting the FA Cup, Europa League and the prestigious Champions League crown.
