Belgium international Marouane Fellaini has ended speculation over his future by penning a fresh two-year contract at Manchester United with the option of a further year.

The 30-year-old had been heavily tipped to leave the Old Trafford outfit in recent weeks but in a dramatic twist of events, he has committed his future to the Mancunian giants.

"I am pleased to be continuing my journey as a Manchester United player. I made this decision because I am very happy here. I feel like this team, under Jose [Mourinho], still has a lot we want to achieve," he told the club's official website.

Fellaini's extension is likely to cease United's pursuit of another midfielder for the summer and the focus may now be on strengthening the backline which looked vulnerable especially in the away games last term.

Toby Alderweireld and Alex Sandro have been highlighted as the prime targets on the club's shortlist but so far, United have yet to come to terms over the transfer fee for either.
