Why Manchester United failed to sign Yerry Mina
Manchester United are understood to have snubbed the chance of Yerry Mina this summer after Barcelona demanded a buy-back clause in the defender's contract.
The Colombia international was heavily tipped for an Old Trafford move before the transfer deadline but ultimately, a deal never materialised with him heading to Everton instead.
According to The Times, the centre-back was likely to join United ahead of the Toffees after Jose Mourinho made a personal phone call to Mina to convince him to join the club.
However, the United board thereafter decided against the move after the Blaugrana insisted on having a buy-back clause placed whilst they also had concerns with regards to agent fees.
As such, United failed in their quest to sign a new centre-back before the transfer deadline and Mourinho will now have to rely on the existing options until January at the least.
Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof were Mourinho's preferred choice during the Premier League opener against Leicester City and the Portuguese may persist with the combination for the forthcoming games, provided the pair remain unscathed.
