United pleased with first half performance vs Spurs

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has indicated that his side were the better team during the first half of the 3-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils started the game on a high note with a number of goalscoring opportunities including a clear-cut one for Romelu Lukaku where he fired away from an open net.

Ultimately, the Mancunian giants were made to pay for their mistakes in the second period whereby a Harry Kane strike combined with a Lucas Moura double condemned the club to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho highlighted that his side performed better during the first half of the clash, though that is unlikely to change the mood around the club.

"We were so so much the better team in the first half I wouldn't be worried with that." he is quoted as saying by ESPN in his post-match press conference.

"Even with the unexpected 2-0 result, the way the team kept playing until the third goal arrived my message to the players has to be a positive message."

With the defeat, United have made their worst start to a Premier League campaign since 1992/93 and they are presently six points off the top of the standings.

Next up, Mourinho's side face a tricky looking away trip to Burnley but they could have some advantage in the fixture owing to the Clarets' midweek Europa League fixture.
