Wantaway French striker Moussa Dembele has completed a transfer deadline day move from Celtic to Lyon. The striker had been very vocal on Twitter in recent times after the Scottish club rejected initial transfer offers from Ligue 1 side Lyon throughout the month of August.

Celtic have received a fee of 22.5 million euros for Dembele, but with the transfer going through at the very last minute of the transfer window, the club will be unable to spend the funds on new acquisitions.

The 22-year-old former Fulham striker has signed a five year contract in Lyonnais and will be in the first team to play for his new club from next week.

"It is vital to make clear that we have never promised any player that he can leave the club at a particular time," Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said in a statement after selling Dembele.

"It has never happened. In fact, we have said all along that we did not wish to sell Moussa, given the circumstances within the transfer window and that is why we rejected a significant offer yesterday.

"However, this particular decision to accept this offer has been taken in order to serve the best interests of the first-team squad, my coaching team and the culture and environment we have created in these last two seasons."
