Liverpool to receive first Coutinho payday
Liverpool will receive the first installment of the fee for the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. When the Brazilian appears in his next game for Barca, his 25th, the club will need to pay a reported £7.5 million to Liverpool in bonuses.
Liverpool and Barcelona agreed on a 120 million euro transfer deal in January for the midfielder and as part of that package 40 million euros is considered a bonus element. Some of these bonuses will be dependent on performances, others on the club's success. It is understood that Barca will have to pay 10 million euros to the Anfield side if they win the Champions League, for example.
When Coutinho makes 100 appearances for Barca, Liverpool will be due a 20 million euro payday.
Jurgen Klopp has already spent much of the money received for Coutinho on the likes of Naby Keita, considered a replacement for the midfielder and is likely to continue to spend money throughout the next two years to strengthen his squad who are currently unbeaten in the Premier League this season.
