Uruguay boss responds to Lucas Torreira injury claim
Caretaker Uruguay manager Fabian Coito has dismissed suggestions that Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has sustained an injury during the recent international friendly against Mexico.
The Gunners ace featured through the first half of the 4-1 triumph over El Tri but he was substituted thereafter amid concerns over a calf issue for which he required an ice park.
As a result, it had been recently claimed that Torreira could miss the upcoming Premier League match against Newcastle United but Coito has refuted those reports by indicating that the midfielder was only taken off as a precaution.
"I took Torreira out as a precaution," he said following the game.
Torreira has not made a league start for Arsenal since joining them during the summer with Granit Xhaka and Mateo Guendouzi being the preferred midfield picks under Unai Emery.
He has come off the substitutes' bench in each of the club's four matches this term and he most recently provided the assist for Alexandre Lacazette's winner versus Cardiff City.
