Tottenham and Barcelona target not leaving in January

Frenkie de Jong will not be leaving Dutch side Ajax in January, according to the club's sporting director Marc Overmars.

De Jong is one of the most sought after youngsters in Europe with Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur interested in the Dutchman.

Barcelona tried to sign him during the last summer transfer window, but the Eredivisie giant refused to do business.

According to recent reports, Spurs have had a £44.8m bid for the midfielder rejected by Ajax.

“Barcelona can return in January if they want to,” Overmars told AS . “No player will leave [Ajax].”

The player has not ruled out a move to Barca in future, and it remains to be seen if a move can be completed by the end of the season.

Tottenham failed to sign any player during the last transfer window, but are trying to change that in future windows with a potential move for De Jong.

It has been revealed that Mauricio Pochettino doesn't want to sign players for the sake of it, but to improve his side. Spurs believe that adding De Jong will improve their side now, and for the long-term.
