Jose Mourinho identifies two transfer targets for January
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is said to want the backing of the hierarchy during the winter transfer window as he aims to bolster the central defensive department.
Mourinho had been desperate to pursue a central defender during the summer but the board were not willing to spend big on potential signings which eventually saw them fail to strengthen the heart of the backline.
However, with the transfer window reopening at the turn of the year, Mourinho is said to want the support from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward with the view to adding options at the back.
According to The Mirror, Mourinho is understood to be planning a mid-season spending spree for the club with Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar and AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli topping his shortlist.
It is added that the pair would cost a minimum fee of at least £80m and their potential arrivals may hamper the futures of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly - both of whom were bought under Mourinho's reign.
Manchester United have witnessed an average start to the season with just four wins from their opening eight league games and this sees them already seven points behind table-toppers Manchester City.
