Juventus plan to sign Mata on a pre-contract

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata has reportedly been earmarked as a potential target for Juventus with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has recently been a regular for the Red Devils in the Premier League but his future remains uncertain with the club yet to begin contract negotiations.

According to Evening Standard, the Bianconeri are among the leading sides vying for the former Chelsea man and they could make an approach as early as the winter transfer window.

Mata is understood to have no plans of parting ways with the Red Devils at the start of the year but he could still sign a pre-contract with an overseas outfit, should there be no agreement over an extension.

Apart from Mata, the Bianconeri are also keeping tabs on the contract situation of goalkeeper David de Gea and there are suggestions that they could sign him on a Bosman next summer.

The shot-stopper's deal expires at the end of the campaign, though the club have an extension clause through which they could extend his stay for another 12 months.
