Cancelo on City radar

Manchester City are set to go head-to-head with Manchester United in the race to sign defender Joao Cancelo from Juventus at the end of the season.

The Portuguese has enjoyed a fine debut campaign with the Bianconeri this term but it is suggested that the club could sanction his sale at the right price during the summer.

United are said to hold a long-term interest in pursuing the right-sided defender but Corriere dello Sport claims that they are set to face stiff competition from the Citizens.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has regularly utilised the services of Kyle Walker and Danilo on the right side of the defence this season, but they are concerns over the future of the latter, who has been linked with Inter Milan.

The Catalan tactician is understood to be eyeing a like-for-like back-up for Walker and reports claim that Cancelo could be available for a fee in the region of £51m when the transfer window reopens.

Compared to City, Cancelo stands the better chance of earning regular gametime with United but the lack of Champions League football could hand the edge to the Premier League holders.
