Danny Welbeck headed for Southampton move?
Southampton are in pole position to sign outgoing Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck this summer. The injury-prone forward, who has decided to leave the club ahead of his contract expiry, is rumoured to be on the verge of an agreement with the Saints.
Welbeck has struggled since his arrival at Arsenal from Manchester United despite an impressive run of form playing for England.
The striker, whose season is already over through injury, is in talks with several clubs abroad but is known to favour a move to another team in the Premier League.
With the Saints having guaranteed their survival this year, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will move swiftly to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
Welbeck will take a pay cut to move to St Mary's but is hopeful that staying in the Premier League will improve his chances of international recognition, an opportunity that has likely slipped with the emergence of Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane in recent times.
Welbeck will say his goodbye's to Arsenal supporters against Chelsea in the Europa League final.
